Anthony Assad, of Milford, is charged with first-degree assault, evading responsibility, and reckless driving, NBC Connecticut reported

Police said Assad sped up as he drove toward the woman in the 150 Barnum Ave. shopping center in Stratford Tuesday morning, Nov. 19, before he crashed into the woman, throwing her onto the Honda's windshield, per the CT Post

Video shows Assad getting out of the car, and saying something to the woman, before driving away, leaving her in a bloody heap on the pavement, authorities said.

As paramedics bundled her into an ambulance, she told police that her fiance was responsible for the crash.

Assad, however, claims the crash was a terrible accident. He told investigators that he meant to press the clutch, but hit the gas by mistake and hit her, per the Post.

Police arrested Assad, and he was being held on a $300,000 bond, authorities said. The judge also ordered him to stay away from his fiancee and wear an GPS-monitoring device, the report said.

The shopping center has a Walmart, Shoprite, and Home Depot.
